I hate coming up with titles for blog entries, expecially one that has no definite purpose other than to update on what’s going on in my life. “News” or “Ouch” might be appropriate though.
So last Monday I was at work…oh yeah, Dakota Woodlands has hired me temporarily to work Mon, Tue and Fri to help out with the “Season of Giving” which is the wonderful time of when everyone and their neighbor donates to their favorite charity and we are a lot of people’s charity of choice this year…We love you all!... So I was at work last Monday and I’m helping move some boxes around in the big garage with two co-workers. (do you see where this might be going yet?) Co-worker #1 (not naming names of course) was on the ladder helping move things on the top shelf and co-worker #2 and I are on the ground helping lift boxes to #1. (now can you see where this is going?) So we get to the last two tall boxes which were both full and rather heavy. #2 and I lift the first box up, it took both of us to lift the darn thing, and start to hand it off to #1. (if you don’t see where this is going yet I’m surprised, see title choice number 2) I of course am directly under the box and it slips out of #1’s hand, (duh!) lands on my right shoulder and then falls to the floor. I went about half way down with it but remained standing. Luckily, my shoulder did not dislocate, otherwise this would take a lot longer to type, but I did sustain injury. Well what do you expect when it takes two people to lift a box and we all think that one person can lift it the rest of the way some 5.5 feet off the ground. So I get to relax from any lifting the rest of the day but eating with my left hand is not something I want to get used to.
I finally go to the med. clinic on thursday, first available time slot of course, and luckily the x-rays showed no fractures and I probably only subluxed the joint (not quite dislocated, partially dislocated, didn’t pop out all the way but tried to) and I got prescribed anti-inflamatories (which I’m still on for my back) and physical therapy which I started yesterday.
My PT is pretty cool, he told me what was wrong and he said, “It’s a really technical term. It’s called a shoulder sprain.” (laugh now, that’s funny) So what’s wrong with me is that my rotator cuff (shoulder joint for the non-medically inclined) is inflamed and is pinching a bit more than normal which is causing the pain and the lower mobility. To help this out, I have to ice, take the drugs and do excercises, the first of which are just to keep the joint from getting worse while we get the inflammation d
